Hi, I’m Kate and I bet you are here because you’re tired of working outside the home and running the rat race maze. I bet you want to be home with the family. But you still need an income. I know, been there.
But guess what? I figured out lots of ways to earn money from home. I made it happen and so can you.
For me, it started off with writing. I worked at an animation company as a voice over coordinator. I loved that job, but when my son was born, I wanted to be home with him. The problem was, I still needed an income.
That’s when I got the idea to write cartoons. It took some effort, but by the time my son was three years old, I was a full-time staff writer who could work at home a good part of the time. By the time son number two arrived, I was a full-time freelance writer.
I loved the freedom that offered me. I could schedule my writing time (and often that turned out to be when everyone else in the house was sleeping). Most importantly, it gave me an opportunity to be a mom to my kids and a wife to my hubby.
My animation writing gave way to a lot of other writing opportunities, from kids books to magazine articles and finally to the Internet where I worked as a ghostwriter and copywriter.
Eventually, the boys grew up and didn’t need me at home as much so I ended up back in the 9 to 5 work world. Who knew the temp job I had taken just for three months would turn into five years in the IT department of a large Fortune 500 company.
But life sometimes throws you curve balls and I quit my job to be a mom again. No, I didn’t have another baby, but my husband and I did have to take care of our granddaughter for a little while.
While working in the IT department I keep writing with small freelance jobs but I decided that wasn’t what I wanted to do with my new work from home life. Research led me to online selling and that’s where I focused my attention. I started selling a few things on eBay and then I added Amazon FBA to my collection of at home jobs.
Now I have two types of work from home jobs. I still write, but mostly for myself on blogs that I monetize with affiliate sales and with my two online sales platforms.
But there’s still so much more I want to do. There just isn’t enough time. Or enough me. So I’m taking what I’ve learned, and still learning, and putting it into this blog to help other moms (and grandmoms) realize their dream of working from home.
