I already knew eBay was a great platform for selling all kinds of items, but I was still surprised when I started selling magazines as a way to make money at home. Yup, it worked and it can work for you, too.

But magazines? Who wants old magazines?

I guess a lot of people.

From Magazine Junkie to eBay Seller

First things first, I have to admit I’m a magazine junkie. Especially when it comes to decorating magazines. I’ve been buying them over the years and never throwing them out. I have a closet filled with boxes of old decorating magazines. And they were starting to take up too much room. In a mad cleaning frenzy, I even throw some of those magazines out.

Then I had a moment of regret. Oh, not because I actually threw them out, but that I didn’t do the one thing I always to with items I want to get rid of. Check eBay.

That old adage, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure,” is true. A check on eBay revealed that people were not only selling but buying the same magazines I had just thrown away. Ouch, I literally had thrown money into the trashcan.

But could I make money at home selling these same magazines? I had to give it a try.

The Next Steps to Selling Magazines on eBay

The first thing I did was sort my magazines into the various issues. Then I looked up each one on eBay, showing only the sold listings. That gave me an idea of what I could ask for them. Now, originally I paid full retail price for these magazines, and I knew I wasn’t going to get all that money back. But it was good to get something, even if that was only three or four dollars for each magazine, that was still good enough for me.

My next step was to choose ten of the most successfully sold editions and put them up for auction. As for all my listings, I took pictures and created detailed listings. I favor 7 auction-day auction listings rather than the Buy It Now option.

Then I sent them off to auction land and let them do their thing.

The Results that Made Me Money From Home

After the first auction was over, I had sold two of the 10. I relisted the eight and now after a couple more auctions I’ve sold three more. For eBay online auctions, that’s a pretty good sales ratio.

In the coming weeks, I’m going to add a whole lot more magazines to my auctions. And I think he’ll do well.

Now this is only a small part of what I sell and once they’re gone, they may be gone. I don’t know if I’m going to make magazines and ongoing part of my eBay inventory. On, if I do stumble across a stash of decorating magazines at a yard sale, you can bet I’ll be negotiating the lowest price for the lot.

You Can Sell on eBay and Make Money at Home, Too

Selling on eBay has been one of my surefire, moneymaking, at home strategies. I started out by just cleaning out the clutter in the closets and it eventually became a significant part of my income. The clutter gave way to items that I actually source now at thrift shops and yard sales. If you’d like to find out more about selling on eBay and what kind of items sell well, head over to the site and check out the sold listings. Or, take a look at eBay for Dummies for more information. eBay just might become a way for you to make money at home.

Meanwhile, onward and upward,
